how to run the cupcake

Hi all,
I would like to try the cupcake version; I tried the build (29/5) provided by marcelo but the archive seems to be corrupted. I compiled from git but the freerunner remains with a very nice android logo shining on the screen...I know that it should be a problem with the media player, is there any solution?
If it help I can attach the logcat: it is quite big, I guess it is in a loop.

Can you try the

repo init -u git://git.moko.serdar-dere.net/cupcake/manifest.git -b cupcake

I start to work on it, I don't apply all the patches and maybe the audio
still crash
Can you give a try?

Confirming it works after compiling from git. WiFi still isn't
working -- will try default branch later.

Thanks Michael for your hard work! :)

Unfortunately, the default branch isn't compiling.

I get some errors like this:

... (some more errors with bluetooth)

I recall having these same errors with koolu git tree, but I was never
able to overcome them.

A quick search gives e.g. this: http://trac.koolu.org/ticket/26 which
is still unanswered. :-/

Any hints?

Just found out that opening TonePicker (0.9.2.1) is crashing the phone
with git cupcake. It reboots starting from ANDROID logo.

Will try to obtain some info using adb logcat.

Michael,
after sync and executing make TARGET_PRODUCT=freerunner
I got the following error:

any suggestions? consider that I successfully compiled the cupcake from koolu git

I think that it is syncronized from the android repository, so I have a
version that
works here and you haven't a running version. Is it possible? Can you
try to use the
old version of that external application?

any suggestions? consider that I successfully compiled the cupcake from koolu git

I think that it is syncronized from the android repository, so I have
a version that
works here and you haven't a running version. Is it possible? Can you
try to use the
old version of that external application?

Hi,
Post by narko$
Hi all,
I would like to try the cupcake version; I tried the build (29/5)
provided by marcelo but the archive seems to be corrupted. I
compiled from git but the freerunner remains with a very nice
android logo shining on the screen...I know that it should be a
problem with the media player, is there any solution?
If it help I can attach the logcat: it is quite big, I guess it is in a loop.
Can you try the
repo init -u git://git.moko.serdar-dere.net/cupcake/manifest.git -b cupcake
I start to work on it, I don't apply all the patches and maybe the audio
still crash
Can you give a try?
Michael

ok, here the first look:
-gsm doesn't work: the sim registers correctly but it is impossible to make and receive calls
-touch scree in quite slow
-I can not get keyboard to write sms
-without the sim card after suspending, I'm not able to unlock the screen (pressing twice the power button as usual)
-with the sim card the display never turn off (not sure about that!)
-wifi can not find any network
-sd card seems to be correctly mounted
-browser crashes before starting

that's all for now.

If the logcat or something else could be useful, just let me know

regards

michele

Hi,

I installed the recent koolu release. It worked, sort of. But I wanted
to revert back to the cupcake build. I tried installing the latest
freerunner-cupcake-snapshot-v6.jffs2, the latest Qi, and re-installed
uImage-17.

The system starts up, the color cycling android logo appears, runs for a
bit, then breif black screen, logo re-appears, and this continues.

My 512MB SD card is 32MB fat then rest ext3. I tried with 128mb FAT and
it was same result.

Is there some extra partitioning of main flash or something similar that
needs to be done to clean up from previous koolu install?

Any help much apreciated. Thanks,

Matt

Sorry let me add that the snapshot-v6 prints an additional message about
mountd not being present. The 14.6 image from march 11 does boot. But
the snapshot does not. Any idea what could be the issue? Thanks,

I have exactly the same problem.

Didn't have much time to research, but could it be related to Qi
version being used? Remember, Koolu installer overwrites Qi.

For those that don't wish to compile the image, here's a way to make

- Install freerunner-v14.6-cupcake.jffs2, uImage-v17.bin and qi after

Apparently it has to do with the fact that the koolu code that
freerunner-cupcake-snapshot-v6.jffs2 is compiled from doesn't expect a
partitioned sd card. By booting once using
freerunner-v14.6-cupcake.jffs2, and then flashing the snapshot, it
bypasses the problem somehow. All I know is it worked for me.

Yea, I had booted 14.6 several times. I just installed snapshot-v6. It
worked but looped on some media force close message that kept popping
up. With some persistence I put it in silent mode and the message
stopped appearing, making the phone usable.

partitioned sd card. By booting once using
freerunner-v14.6-cupcake.jffs2, and then flashing the snapshot, it
bypasses the problem somehow. All I know is it worked for me.

Sorry, at what point in the first boot do we shut down? Why only once?
Thanks,
Matt

For those that don't wish to compile the image, here's a way to make
- Install freerunner-v14.6-cupcake.jffs2, uImage-v17.bin and qi after
reformatting your sd card.
- Boot up the phone once. Shut down immediately.
- Flash freerunner-cupcake-snapshot-v6.jffs2 and it should work now

Compile the trimarchi git. it works, but there are still a lot of
issues (see previous mails in this thread)

I have exactly the same problem.
Didn't have much time to research, but could it be related to Qi
version being used? Remember, Koolu installer overwrites Qi.

That error stops if you "force close" something like 14 times, as well.
The image is still far from usable I think...

Yea, I had booted 14.6 several times. I just installed snapshot-v6. It
worked but looped on some media force close message that kept popping
up. With some persistence I put it in silent mode and the message
stopped appearing, making the phone usable.

Apparently it has to do with the fact that the koolu code that
freerunner-cupcake-snapshot-v6.jffs2 is compiled from doesn't expect a
partitioned sd card. By booting once using
freerunner-v14.6-cupcake.jffs2, and then flashing the snapshot, it
bypasses the problem somehow. All I know is it worked for me.

I find the Contacts list maybe some bugs, my contact on sim card can't
be load in.

I want to debug it, But if there is any convenient way to do it? or I
have to build the
system.img and install all system again and again.

So, everybody, how you are debugging, you can tell me, Thanks.

I ran into the same problem described by everybody else (a n d r o i d
flahsing on the screen for ever).

I flashed with v14.6, booted up, got the a n d r o i d + two green android
guys, and the FR shuts down abruptly. Tried to reboot, same thing.

I then re-flashed with v6, and now I get the a n d r o i d flashing on the
screen for about 10 second, and now, the FR shuting down abruptly again.

Any idea ?

The Koolu versions all say 1.0-beta-x that's android 1.0 ?
I heard there was a koolu cupcake working ?

Thanks.

Yves,
Make sure you reformat your sd card first, and make sure you're flashing
v14.6-cupcake

It works now thanks, and big Thanks to Michael Trimarchi for putting the
image together.

The problem might have been the battery too. My battery had died (I had come
disillusioned with the freerunner after trying all the other distros and had
left it in a corner), and yesterday I was using the BL-5CA from my Nokia
1208, and I did get errors on the FreeRunner about not being able to get
battery health information... I booted it with one of the broken image, plug
it in the charger and swapped the battery, and this morning the FreeRunner
battery was working fine.

PS: putting the FreeRunner battery in the Nokia 1208 would not charge it.

Marcus,

Are you going to put that on the wiki
(http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Android_on_Freerunner) ?

I can do it but need to know who I should credit for the procedure (You
Marcus) ?

I don't get credit for that. Someone on panicking.kicks-ass.org/blog
came up with that - Tom. Tom, pipe in any time if you're on this list to
get your dues.
